Early anesthesia exposure on neurodevelopment

Typically-developing children are invited to participate in a study of the effects of general anesthesia on neurodevelopment. We are using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neuropsychological testing to help us to understand what effect, if any, anesthesia has on developing brains.

Who can participate:
- Boys and girls
- Ages 6-10
- Children who have never received general anesthesia OR children who have received general anesthesia before age 3 at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital

Participation involves:
- Behavioral assessment
- Cognitive testing

Benefits of participating:
- Honorarium of $100 to offset travel expenses
- Report of neuropsychological testing
- Picture of your brain
