We need children age 8-16 years to help us with this study:
•History of posterior fossa brain tumor (e.g. PNET, medulloblastoma, ependymoma, cerebellum tumor, brain stem tumor, 4th ventricle tumor, etc.)
•Healthy children with no history of major medical, psychiatric or neurological conditions
•No metallic implants or medical devices inside the body (e.g. orthodontic braces, permanent retainers, ferrous steel plates or pins, pacemaker, VP shunt)
•No major sensory impairments (e.g. blindness, deafness)
Participation involves 1) cognitive testing, 2) MRI scan and 3) saliva sample. See Study Goals for details. There are two assessments involved, each requiring approximately 5.5 hours (including a one hour break). We can break the assessment up across two days if necessary. The first assessment will be done at enrollment and the second will be done 12 months later. We have evening and weekend appointments available.
We pay $150 for each completed study assessment.
You will also receive a report of your child’s cognitive testing results that can be used for monitoring your child’s cognitive development over time and assisting with educational planning.
Once the second assessment (12 month follow-up) is complete, your child will be eligible to participate in our online cognitive exercise curriculum which is designed to improve cognitive skills known to be difficult for children with a history of brain tumor (e.g. attention, problem solving, processing speed, memory).
